Another week closer to planting season on the farm, and another week of farm activity pictures for you!
Helping Hand

My son came out to help us clean up some brush. He’s a pretty hard worker and enjoys being outside with all the guys.
Brushing Up
Randy is dumping another load of wood on the pile, and Dad is tossing a limb in.
Let’s Grapple
Grappling a few stumps with the 7920. We installed this grapple last year. It’s one of those things you wonder why you didn’t have one before. The house hasn’t been torn down yet. We may or may not get to it before planting.
Fired Up
Randy pushes in the pile as it burns down.
Straighten Out
We found that the frame of the mower we bought last week in Seymour was bent a fair amount. Some heat and some leverage solved that problem.
Ready for Work
Well here’s the 4630 again, but now with the mower instead of plowing snow like last week. We think this will be an improvement in mowing roadsides with our batwing mower and the big loader tractor in the previous pictures.
In the News
1 day left to purchase crop insurance
I was on the local news this week talking about crop insurance payments to farmers. I’m the guy at the end in the blue jacket.
Loaded for Bear
The biggest load I’ve pulled in three years of owning this truck. I figure this whole rig is close to 28,000lbs. The backhoe alone is 16,000. Headed south on 421 I ran 55mph at around 1600rpm. Turned west on 18 into the wind and some grades and a revved up 45mph is all my truck wanted. Still I say that’s not bad for a truck with 256,000 miles that apparently has a tow/haul button that does not work. It was just a 20 mile trip. Now the question is whether or not this is the backhoe that will come home with us on the return trip…….
Horsing Around
I got to see some horses up close this week. I don’t have much experience with horses. In fact I’ve only ridden one horse one time in my life. These two were enjoying the sun and mud!
Truckin’
Those two horses were at the same location at these big horses. There’s a shop not far from us that takes used over-the-road trucks, generally all Peterbilts, and removes the sleepers and refurbishes them. These trucks are very nice. I wouldn’t mind replacing our International and Freightliner with a couple Petes, but spending money on fancier trucks doesn’t make me any money. Not this groups of Petes anyway. We’ll have to keep tabs on this place and see if the right rig(s) comes along.
What do you think? What did you do this week?
I LOVED the video of your little boy helping with the brush. what a treat for him to get to work with all of the big boys.
It won’t be long before he’s bringing dinner in the field once the planter starts rolling.
