No farming on the farm this Friday. We took a trip down the the
Indiana State Fair today. This year is the “Year of the Soybean” so there were lots of displays about beans and all the different products they can become. The weather was in the low 80s which was just about perfect. Didn’t sweat once all day! Best of all it was Purdue Day at the fair, so Purdue was out in force and many people visiting the fairgrounds were in their Gold & Black including me!
The Hoosier Lottery Grandstand was empty during the day, but there are plenty of events planned that will fill those seats.
Did you know?
Sheep trimming competition in action. After 1 hour you must put your trimmers down!
What's going on here? You guessed it. A dog having surgery in the middle of the fair. Just to the right under the Red Gold sign you could watch it up close on TV.
Just your average 1800lbs of cheese sculpture.
Walking through the horse barn.
Every year the fair has several John Deere tractors powered by soy diesel that are used to transport visitors around the grounds.
No caption needed.
Fried anything. Kind of wish I had tried the Kool-Aid.
There was a pen of pretty cute calves available for petting.
My son getting in some quality cow time.
The Purdue Crew team was in attendance for Purdue Day. They had this all carbon fiber boat on display. Little known fact: I was a member on the team my first semester at Purdue. Wish I would've stuck with it because it's a great sport and a great workout. When you are on the water at 5am at the end of October in just a pair of shorts you know your burning some calories.
The Boilermaker Special was making the rounds today. Boiler Up! Toot toot!
John Deere!
- Oh, it’s on special! I tweeted earlier today that I saw what were obviously non-farm people looking at the prices on some of the equipment on display and actually having there picture taken with the prices. I wonder what they thought?
Some everyday things you might buy that have soybeans in them. I did not know Aveeno products contained soybeans.
Our son was all over feeding the goats.
My cousin's uncle is teaching his daughter to fish at the DNR Fish Pond.
All types of native Indiana fish are on display at the DNR building. These two don't seemed overly concerned with the fake snake in there.
