Farm Week in Pictures 12/07/2012

Several happenings on the farm this week. We’ve attended meetings, talked about trading equipment, worked on estate planning, and did some actual farm work. Here’s few pictures of highlights from the week!

Lawnmower needs a new deck belt.

We got the Christmas Star back out, replaced the burned out bulbs and prepared to pull it up to the top of the grain leg.  Go ahead and click that star to see another post showing had Dad and I get the star 70′ up in the air.

The green growing between the corn stalks is ryegrass cover crop. The grass will help scavenge nutrients not used by the corn crop, but its main purpose is to build the soil.

I have to go way up there to install the star. The top of the leg is where I took the picture of the ryegrass.

On Wednesday night Dad, Grandpa, and I attended a farm meeting put on by the group we pay to help us make grain marketing decisions. Great food and great business info!

On Tuesday night I hosted my third #AgChat on twitter. I’ve got a couple of windows open to keep tabs on the chat while I moderate the questions.  This was a special chat in conjunction with Mediaplanet and USA Today!

Somewhat old and relatively new. Our 4630 and 9320 parked side by side in the shop for a little maintenance.

There was a big farm auction this week nearby. I’ll have another post on this later with some video of the sale.

Comments

  1. That last picture sure looks like late November in Indiana. makes me homesick. Thanks for posting pics of your equipment so people can see what a huge investment it takes to farm these days.

  2. We are building a brand new bin/dryer/grain leg set up this summer. I told my husband I want a lighted Christmas star at the top of the leg also. Can’t wait. Well yes I can. Would like to experience spring summer and fall yet. But it will be so pretty shining bright for Christmas 2013.
