Will it Start?

UPDATE! 01/19/2012

The engine would not initially fire in “as is” condition.  The carbereuter has been rebuilt, along with the starter and generator.  It also has new plugs and plug wires.  Today the timing on the engine was set and it finally started for the first time in 20 years!  Our hired hand Randy and his son Randy are responsible for this step forward.  Watch it run!

Pulled this from 20 years of storage in our “satellite” barn to the shop today.  It ran when it was parked.  Engine turns easily when you pull the belt.  Will it start on its own when a charged and/or new battery is installed?

    1. Seems the starter might be a little weak so we are going to have it checked out along with the generator. We just realized today it has provisions for a hand crank, so we might make a crank of our own to try. I’m headed to Arizona on Sunday and won’t be back until 12/13 so I may have to catch up when I get back.

    1. Sure is. It doesn’t do regular work anymore, but we will use it to haul popcorn. That way we have three trucks running so the combine can keep going since it takes about 4 hours for a truck to leave the field, unload at the plant, and get back.

  1. Sweet! I have a 45 that I’m slowly rescuing from a junkyard. (we have a running receipt and I pay him a dollar at a time basically) My goal is to get it into running, driving, working condition and eventually restore it completely.
Any tips you can give to a rookie?
