  1. Great Pics Brian! You do such a nice job taking a picture of the somewhat ordinary things around the farm and telling a story. I don’t always make time to comment but I always enjoy your posts.

  2. Can’t help but notice all of your beautiful pictures don’t include the two lay downs of poison you must do. Do you eat your soy beans? Do you feed them to your beautiful child? My son is researching GMO’s for a school project, and for the first time, I fear my food. Food that eats poison can not possibly be consequence free. We would not drink water with only a little poison in it.

  3. I have to assume you’re referring to herbicides and/or insecticides. One reason I don’t have many pictures of spraying is because we don’t do our own spraying, so I’m generally not on site to take pictures. I crack open a few soybeans with my teeth from time to time to see what they look like inside but I don’t make a meal of them. I eat foods that contain soy products and so does the rest of my family.

It’s good that you’re learning about food production. Know that GMO crops aren’t the only plants that will resist herbicides. Not all herbicides will kill all types of plants. There are selective herbicides and non-selective ones such as glyphosate. For example: I don’t know if you have a lawn, but if you wanted to get rid of dandelions and fertilizer your grass there is a good chance you’d use a weed a feed product. The herbicide in that product will kill the dandelions and not the grass, and your grass isn’t GMO.

Thanks for stopping by, and if you have any other questions please don’t hesitate to post them so I can respond.

  4. Brian, that was a very eloquent comment to someone who was just looking to pick a fight. I’m a son-in-law to a Farmer (3rd+ generation) and have learned quite a bit in my short time in the family. I also happen to be an IT professional for an [evil] biotechnology company. I love your blog because you give rational, intelligent answers to some of the farming/food issues of today.

Please keep up the good work and hopefully people will use more than Food, Inc. and anti-gmo websites to do their “research.”
