Know Your Neighbor by Truck

Dad, Shane, Ted, Pete, Ed, Dick, Mike, Rick, Kyle, Randy, Jeff, Gerald, Tim, another Tim, John, and Dave.  These are some nearby farmers I can identify by the pickup trucks when they are coming down the road.  Everybody in the area tends to recognize other farmers’ trucks and we always wave when we pass.  In fact, three of these guys have newer black, crew cab, GM trucks, but I can tell them apart.  One is a GMC and two are Chevys so that’s easy.  The two Chevys have different front license plates, although they are both Purdue plates.  Boiler Up!

It isn’t unusual for farmers to know their neighbors by their tractors and other equipment too.  Tractors can look pretty similar, but you can tell by what type of tires they have or what implement they are pulling behind them.

If you see the truck pictured above be sure to wave because it will be me driving down the road!

  1. What a fun post. I definitely know this is true too. Whenever my uncle, or dad or grandpa drive to the house – I always can tell which one is who. My grandpa’s Dodge certainly has a different sound than my Dad’s Ford!

  2. I totally screwed up the MS Delta by moving in & buying a 4 WD Jeep several years ago. Folks didn’t know who was driving it but they figured on those county roads, having 4 WD they must know me so they’d wave. I knew I didn’t know anyone so wasn’t sure if I should wave to be polite or just let it go! LOL!

  3. If you see a bronze Ford Contour with a front Purdue plate on it drive in your farm in the future that will be me
