Four Generations of Farming You Can Take to the Bank

Today is my mom’s day to watch our son, but she had an appointment this morning.  We men had an appointment as well to go to the bank and sign some paperwork.  My 3 year old son ending up going to the bank meeting, and taking his own seat at the conference table.  Check out Scott generations 5, 2, and 3 tuned it to what our banker is saying.  Generation 4, which is me, snapped the photo.  We were actually greeted as we walked in by being mentioned by the staff as four generations of farmers.  How’s that for a family farm?

  1. I wish you had someone take the photo with you in it! Or did that goofy reach back thing 🙂

    1. I just took it for the heck of it. I didn’t realize how good of a shot it was until I looked at it later. This happens quite often actually.

    1. He’s actually a little reserved around him. I think in part because Grandpa doesn’t speak 3 year old/doesn’t hear great. Ha! He was very good while we signed papers. He’s a really good kid.

  2. Good picture. Worked cattle this morning with my dad and my three year old. Dad was a great help. Three year old got cold and was not as helpful. But would not trade it for anything!

  3. There is no doubt there is great value in family farming.

I only wish the economy were set up (and personal choices were made) so that we could support whole communities of family farms.

Have you ever read any Wendell Berry? He’s a farmer and author from Kentucky. I just reviewed on of his short stories on my blog in a post called “Faithfulness to Family and Farming: ‘Fidelity’ by Wendell Berry.

    Keep up the good work.

  4. Love the photo! During the planting and harvest season we have three generations out in the field together. And I remember when I was a kid doing things with my great grandpa, grandpa and dad on the farm. Good memories!
