Farm Week in Pictures 12/21/2013

We had another busy week for Farm Week in Pictures even though there were only a few activities.  Two days were dedicated to hauling soybeans, we spent one day at a farm show in Indianapolis, and we kept working on our taxes.  Enjoy the pictures.

Soybean Trucking

The Farmer's Life Instagram via thefarmerslife.comSeveral inches of snow stuck around early in the week, but two days of 50F and lots of rain made all this disappear.Ice Road Trucking via thefarmerslife.comAll our trucking was done in the snow.  The highways were clear, but our road was icy and a bit narrow for two vehicles to pass.  I’m glad I never met another truck coming the other direction because it would have been hard to two trucks to keep to the plowed part of the road.  If you slide off in a semi there’s not much chance you’re coming back, and you probably won’t be pulling back on the road without help.  When trucking grain in snow you have to realize that you are almost driving two different vehicles for each part of the trip.  You’ve got a lot of weight on the first leg, and you are about 30 tons lighter coming home. Next week brings us Christmas, and a new year after the following week!  How do you plan to finish out 2013?

  1. Brian, those first two pictures were worthy of a calendar. Good eye. I enjoyed the time lapse video of your drive in the snow as well. You are an Ice Road Trucker! I planted arugula and collards yesterday (we garden year round in Southern California). I will be harvesting the first of our navel oranges and Meyer lemons this week, and planting onions and garlic.
