Farm Week in Pictures 01/25/2014

This week on the farm brought on more tractor cleaning, some shop cleaning, a public open house, corn hauling, truck modification, and paperwork.

Clean and Green John Deere Tractors

Shop Sweepers

Farm Shop via thefarmerslife.comGrandpa and Randy sweep up all the dirty and debris left behind after cleaning the 9320.  Generation 5 really wants to drive his bug in the dirt!

Protective Measures

Delta Silverado Truck Box via thefarmerslife.comDad had the idea to put a piece of expanded metal around his new toolbox to protect it from cargo bumping up against it.  Do you think it looks good?

Power Grab

Mapping via thefarmerslife.comSeems there are going to be some electric power transmission lines coming through the area.  135′ tall towers space 1250′ apart.  We need to keep infrastructure up to date, but I really don’t want to look at or farm around these things.  During the week the utility companies involved held an open house for anyone to come in and learn about the project.  They say there will be another meeting in May with the proposed routes mapped out.  Three stations with computers were set up so attendees could mark spots on a map that were of concern.  I guess we will see how this all works out in a few more months.  The shortest and straightest line between the two substations being connected goes right through our main area of operation.  However, it sounds like the lines may end up North or South of us so they can avoid the widest parts of the lakes West of us.

Keep on Trucking

Hauling Corn via thefarmerslife.comGrandpa, 87, keeping an eye on the truck he is loading in below zero weather.  We hauled two loads of waxy corn to Tate & Lyle on Friday.

The Tax Man Cometh

Taxes via thefarmerslife.comReady to mail out some tax paperwork.  1099 forms for landlords and withholding and wages for our employee.

We’re supposed to start next week below zero again for a few days.  A few more inches of snow has fallen over the weekend with lots of blowing and drifting of roads.  News stations keep reporting sections of nearby highways closing do to the drifting.  This is our second winter with quite a bit more snow than we’ve seen for a few years.  I like it!  Do you?
