Farm Week in Pictures 9/9/11

Hi.  It’s me.  I’m back.  I haven’t posted in almost a month.  We’ve been super busy doing things away from home all the time and we finished August with a trip to the Domican Republic and before we came home we were in Chicago for four more days because my best friend was getting married.

But now I’m back with a new post, and with harvest starting very soon I’ll be sure to have more on the way.

Buds. That's a John Deere blanket and it goes everywhere with him.

I was on top of a grain bin doing some pre-harvest maintenance when I snapped this shot. Popcorn is turning quickly, and you can see the double crop wheat beans are still green.

This is it. The last of the 2010 crop loaded up and ready to deliver.

One semi at the tire shop waiting to get new steering tires. The other truck will get a set as well.

It's always surprising just how worn out old tires seem once you get the new ones. I'd say the old ones had less than 10% of this depth left.

Out in the field checking some ears. Things are drying up quickly.

We treat our grain storage and handling equipment with Malathion before we fill the bins up again. This is to prevent bugs from doing damage while the grain is stored for months at a time.

Greasing the electric motor that runs the grain dump. Also installed some new drive belts and checked the gear oil.

Ever wonder what the inside of a hopper trailer looks like empty? This is it aside from a bit of corn dust in the bottom. Two hoppers per trailer and roughly 1000 bushels to a load.
